Maritime & Shipping

For its archipelagic status and strategic location right on the path of numerous passages of vessels in between Asia Pacific and beyond, Indonesia faces many complex maritime and shipping issues. The uncertainty in enforcing the relevant laws and regulations only adds more challenge on how to solve such issues.

Our lawyers possess ample experience in handling this practice as it requires combination of various legal disciplines from complying to the maritime regulations and its interpretation down to defending the clients’ rights in arrest and security cases.

A harbourmaster may arrest a vessel at the relevant port if such vessel is alleged to have been involved in criminal or civil case. Our lawyers, in numerous occasions, have succeeded to release and repossess vessels. These release and repossession include foreign owned cargo vessels up to sophisticated super yacht from the Indonesian ports. We appear before the courts of most major ports of Indonesia, as well as in litigation and arbitration proceedings. Our clients include domestic and foreign cargo interests, vessel owners and operators, charterers, insurers and reinsurers, shipyards, importers and exporters.

Purchasing a vessel is special and involves substantial investment as well as complex legal issues. For this, we represent both sellers and buyers in the sale and purchase of a wide spectrum of vessels, ranging from large and small ships to cruise vessels. This includes negotiating and preparing financing documents, loan agreements, ship mortgages and registrations, assignments and miscellaneous undertakings.
